Weight-based pricing is the single best predictor of Cytopoint cost. Because Zoetis ships Cytopoint in only four vial sizes (10 mg, 20 mg, 30 mg, 40 mg), dogs of similar weight often pay exactly the same amount at the same clinic. Costs below include the medication and the office-administration fee.

How Dog Weight Pushes Cost Up
There are two compounding effects:
- Higher dose per injection. The minimum dose is 2 mg/kg, so a 100-lb dog needs 2.5× more lokivetmab than a 40-lb dog.
- More frequent injections. Larger dogs tend to metabolise Cytopoint faster and may relapse sooner, requiring 4-week (13 shots/yr) rather than 8-week (7 shots/yr) intervals.
A 40-lb dog on an 8-week schedule pays $1,295/year. A 100-lb dog on a 6-week schedule pays $3,600/year — about the same as a moderately-priced Apoquel regimen for the same dog at $3,800/year.

Most owners ask: "How can the same vial that costs the vet $45–$60 wholesale end up at $95 on my bill?" Three layers:
- Office administration fee. A vet office charges $25–$45 to perform the injection (similar to a routine office visit).
- Markup. Most veterinary clinics mark up prescription medications by 35–55 % to cover overhead (pharmacy licensing, storage, staff time).
- Geographic multiplier. The same vial may cost more in Manhattan or San Francisco because the clinic's office-rent and staff-pay overheads are higher.
The actual Cytopoint drug cost is the smallest single line item on most Cytopoint invoices.

How much Cytopoint does my dog need? The minimum dose is 0.9 mg/lb (2 mg/kg). A 50-lb dog needs at least 45 mg of lokivetmab — dispensed as a 40 mg + 10 mg combination, or a 30 mg + 20 mg combination.
Do all vets charge the same per-vial rate? No. The wholesale cost is ~$45 for a 10 mg vial; the same vial may be billed at $50–$140 at different clinics. Always ask for the office-tier rate, and compare two clinics if cost matters.
Does dog weight affect how long Cytopoint lasts? Yes — heavier dogs sometimes relapse sooner, probably because of higher metabolic clearance. Large dogs often end up on a 6-week schedule, smaller dogs on an 8-week schedule. Source: PMC — lokivetmab long-term study.
Is there a weight limit for Cytopoint? No. The dose scales linearly; giant breeds get 3–4 vials per injection.
